Practical aspects in EEG/AEP measurements

Electrophysiological monitoring can be applied to detect adverse changes in neurological functions. In addition, information for predicting the outcome of a critically ill patient can be obtained. For neuromonitoring, several methods are available and new techniques are under intensive research.

The aim of this paper is to concentrate on the technical aspects of successful monitoring of EEG and auditory evoked potentials (AEP).

This article a summary of the presentation given at the Datex-Ohmeda’s Clinical Window symposium at the ISICEM 2001 meeting in Brussels, Belgium.
