Dear readers,

"Targeting Anesthesia Care" is our current theme and completes the 9th volume of Clinical Window Web Journal.

Anesthesiologists optimize care according to the clinical needs of a patient. There are generalized guidelines or care algorithms, but we should also take into account inter-individual variability of a patient. I have selected two articles as examples from different methods of anesthesiology, intravenous and regional anesthesia.

The "Computer Assisted Intravenous Anesthesia" -article comes from the research team of Prof. L. Barvais (Brussels, Belgium). At the Erasmus University Hospital, they have studied the subject extensively, and they report on their developments from both practical and theoretical perspectives.

In their practical article "Ultrasound-Guided Upper Extremity Blocks" Drs. Morito and Popovic (New York, USA) illustrate how ultrasound can display new landmarks, creating new alternatives in regional anesthesia.

In total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA), we can use pharmacological algorithms to target drug concentrations according to population based PK/PD modeling. In regional anesthesia, ultrasound technology enables us a new way to locate nerve bundles, bringing new visibility to the traditional techniques.

Clinical Window has been on the web since our first issue appeared in the year 2000, and all the material we have published for medical professionals is searchable on the web. I want to thank our 200-300 daily visitors for their feed-back and support. Over the last 12 months, we have organized five scientific symposia in international congresses, with a total audience of over 1.200 clinicians. Thank you for attending.

Our 12th Clinical Window scientific lectures take place at Euroanaesthesia in Milan. See you there!
